New Morning Farmstead Maple Dulce de Leche

Vermont Farm to Table and New Morning Farmstead are excited to team up to bring you this sweet treat using Fresh A2 milk from Olive the cow! Drizzle this dulce de leche on your morning pancakes, use it to sweeten your cup of coffee, or dip apple slices for an instant caramel apple! Just like all of our Vermont Farm to Table recipes this dulce de leche is made using only Vermont grown ingredients!

Maple Dulce de Leche
Ingredients
- 6 cups whole milk
- 1 ½ cups maple sugar
Instructions
- Combine the milk and maple sugar in a medium to large saucepan. A wider saucepan will help the milk evaporate faster.
- Heat over high heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture begins to boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low so the mixture is at a simmer.
- Allow the mixture to simmer, stirring about every 15 minutes for about two hours until the mixture has thickened to a thick liquid caramel texture. The mixture will thicken more as it cools, so a good test is to put a little of the caramel in a small dish in the fridge to check if it has reached the desired texture.
- Once thickened to the desired consistency, blend the dulce de leche with an immersion blender or in a food processor until smooth (this will help if the mixture has split a little from being heated.)
- Dip apples to make caramel apples, or add a pinch of salt at the end for salted caramel to enjoy over ice cream!
